How to Read a Book So It Changes You
May 14, 2026
Finishing a book is not the goal. Being changed by it is.
Read with a pen
A book you argue with is a book you remember. Underline what you disagree with. Write questions in the margin. Talk back to the author.
Keep less, but keep it
After each chapter, write down one idea you want to keep — in your own words.
- If you can't explain it simply, you haven't understood it yet.
- One real takeaway beats fifty highlights you never revisit.
"The person who says he has read a thousand books and the person who has truly absorbed ten are not in the same business."
Read slower. Keep less. Change more.
